Originating from Germany from a group of hunters that seperated from the Fox Terrier the breed was created for the sole purpose of hunting. Initially crossing with the Old English Wirehaired Terrier and the Welsh Terrier a small group of black and tan terriers became the founding stock of German Hunting Terriers. Over many years of careful and skilful breeding the German Hunting Dog has developed into a multitalented, easy trainable and water happy dog with explicit hunting instinct.
