The Saluki is a graceful balance of beauty and function. Salukis are
typically 24-29 inches tall at the shoulder and generally weigh between
40 and 65 pounds. Salukis are swift, agile, and very graceful in
motion. As a member of the sight hound group, the Saluki hunts by
sight, not scent. They were bred to be long distance runners, having
both speed and endurance, whereas their cousins, the greyhound and the
whippet, were bred to be short distance sprinters. Salukis have been
clocked at over 45mph.....

Written by
Wanda Ramsdell – Owner of Jordyalan Border Collies

Origin – The
Border Collie is considered as one of the oldest breeds. The Border Collie
originated in the border country between Scotland
and England.
He was known in the past as the Working
Collie, the Old-fashioned Collie, the Farm Collie and the English Collie, and
finally got his name from the secretary of the International Sheepdog Society
in Great Britain
in 1915. He is a breed of herding dog,
and widely regarded as the most intelligent dog breed. Border Collies are highly energetic, and as a
result have a tendency towards neurotic destructive behavior if not given
enough to do.

How people perceive Poodles and the reality can be at times vastly
different. Some perceive Poodles as aloof fluffy dogs who eat cordon
bleu meals, wear diamante collars, in between taking naps on satin
pillows. While no doubt some do sleep on satin pillows, the Poodle is
acknowledged as a highly intelligent companion, working dog, and valued
family member. There is nothing lightweight about the breed....

For some time now, I’ve been deeply troubled by the poor old dog’s
ongoing fall from grace in the eyes of many sections of the community.
While dogs themselves have not intrinsically changed, public perception
of them definitely has - largely fuelled by headline-hungry reports of
‘canine crimes’ and ‘mutt misdemeanours’. Where once it was commonplace
to read good news stories about dogs....

Oneof the disciplines that we can compete in here in Australia is the "E.T." or Endurance Test.

EnduranceTests are a really enjoyable activity in which you and your dog canparticipate. You don't have to have a "show" dog to do it, the onlyrequirements are that you be a member of the Victorian Canine Association (orinterstate equivalent), and that your dog is registered with the VictorianCanine Association (or interstate equivalent) . Also, your dog can be noyounger than two years of age, and no older than eight years of age.
