Thought it would be good to open a forum page for doggy recipes. Please feel free to add your dogs favorite treats.

Liver Scones (Beef or Chicken)

2 1/2 Cups of Self Raising Flour,
1 Cup of liver (cooked and chopped into small cubes)
1/2 Cup of water or you can use Beef or Chicken Stock for extra flavour
1/2 Cup of Milk
2 Tablespoons butter
1/4 Teaspoon of salt.

Sift flour, salt & rub in butter, add chopped liver & mix. Add milk & stock (or water) until sticky. Knead on floured surface until firm. Roll out and cut into shapes. Place non stick tray & bake in Hot oven for approx 10-15minutes. My dogs love them.

What a great idea, thanks for starting this post!

I have to admit to being a mean mum, I have not cooked treats for my dogs. Tia does have allergies, so both Tia and Taj are raw fed, and Tia's treats are limited to foods that don't affect her skin. Taj on the other hand, can and will eat anything, so I might have to give it a go and cook some treats for them and just give Tia a tiny bit.

Do the liver scones end up like regular human scones in texture, or are they more crunchy like a biscuit?

Hi Michelle,

I must admit I don't cook them to often & have had them turn out both ways LOL. When rolling out if you want more the biscuit texture which I prefer for handling, I roll very thin and use lots of flour on my board. The dogs didn't seem to mind which way they turned out but they are Golden Retrievers and they love any food.

Hope Tia likes them and they like her.

What about adding suggestions for training treats.....

To start the ball rolling Ness gets
- raw chicken necks
- raw sweet potato
- left over meat
- frozen kidney
- yoghurt
- peas
- apple
- pork ribs
- cheese
- fritz

What does everybody else use?

Hi Ness,

Mine will eat anything but I find the best to put in my pocket is the dried liver which I buy from my local butcher for $2 a bag, Get's their attention very quickly. One of my friends uses pieces of hotdog, but I don't really like the feel of them in my pocket.

eep! We are just about to run out to agility training and I don't have any treats ready, Taj eats just about everything, but for training I tend to use:

Cat kibble
polony cubes
cheese
diced hotdogs
dried liver
tiny pieces of schmackos

For other treats he loves yogurt, peanut paste, honey, icecream, chicken, sausages.

Now I had better run and cut some polony otherwise he won't pay attention at training!

LOL, I am sure the only way we will know if Taj is sick is if he dosn't eat his dinner - then we would rush him to the vets! So far the only thing that he does not like is bannana - although if he thinks someone else is going to eat it, he will gulp it down.

One of Taj's favourite foods is mashed pumpkin - if I give him some he will pick that out of his bowl before eating chicken necks, roo meat, liver or other food. Tia is slightly more fussy, but she also has food allergies so her treats are limited. Trinity only gets baby portions at this stage until she gets used to different types of food (so far she loves everything edible - and inedible - too!).

Last week I made them natural yogurt iceblocks with some honey mixed in and they absolutely LOVED them

I just thought I would add with the Liver Scones recipe you can also substitute tuna or sardines. That seems to be a big hit at my place.

Hi, I recently became a vegan and am thinking about putting my cattle dog, Polar, onto a vegan diet. I wondered what others thought about this for her wellbeing.

Thanks,
Steve
