Help for the Rescue Services Directory

This guide is provided in two parts, the first for the general user for browsing and searching the directory, the second part is for Rescue Organisations to create a listing and become a part of the dogsites.com.au Rescue Directory.

Rescue Services are permitted to list dogs for rescue in their rescue service listing as well as the Dogs for Rescue listings (for each dog)

Users should be aware that this Directory is for Rescue Services only. If you have a dog for rescue but you are not a rescue service (officially) please use the Dogs for Rescue listing.

Browsing

All users of our Rescue Directory please be aware that we only list those breeds that are recognised breeds by the Australian National Kennel Council.  If the breed you are looking for is not listed please check if it is a recognised breed, if it is and we do not have it here please let us know.  However we do cater for all Breeds and mixed breed rescue organisations as all dogs need a good home.

Navigation of the Rescue Directory is fairly simply with the top row of buttons as shown here

rescuehelp1.gif

The Rescue Services directory button will take you to the main Rescue Services home page.  The Back button (not displayed on Rescue Services Home Page) allows the user to simply go back a page to view the previous page, the same as your back button on your web browser. The Search button takes you to the Directory search featire (see below).  Add Entry is for Rescue Services to add their details.  The Help button brings up this page.

The Rescue Services directory is arranged like most parts of the dogsites.com.au website in that there is a section for each and every ANKC recognised breed.  However since we feel that all dogs, whether pure or not deserve a loving, good and responsible home we welcome Rescue Services to also list mixed breed services and dogs for rescue.

Browsing is very simple, just select the alphabetical letter to which your chosen breed starts with and the breeds for that letter will then be provided.  Or select the All Breeds or mixed breed section to browse for listing in those categories.  You then simply select the category you require to view all Rescue Services for that specific category.

Rescue Services cards are displayed as s summary of information of a Rescue Services details, selecting any of the cards (anywhere in each box) will bring up the full details of that Rescue Service.  Please note you must be member of our site to view contact details, this is done to reduce the possibility of email and contact detail harvesting.

Searching

Searching within the Rescue Services Directory can be done in two main ways, one being via the main dogsites.com.au search found on the left hand side navigation menu and the in-built Rescue Services Directory specific search function.

To access the Rescue Services Directory specific search simply select the Search button from the top navigation links, a screen like this will appear.

rescuehelp2.gif

The top section is simply a text box that allows you to enter your search terms, such as Rescue name or really anything else.  You can then select to find any of the words, all of the words or the exact phrase, which can be useful if searching for a specific name.

The area underneath allows you to refine your search to specific locations, simply select the drop down lists and make your selection.  When done select the Search button provided and the results of your search will appear beneath your search criteria.

That is pretty much it for browsing and searching so enjoy and we hope you finr it useful.

Rescue Services Entry Guide

This guide is provided for Rescue Services on how to add and edit their entries.

A Rescue Service may only list once, however they may select up to 5 breeds to be listed in.  Please note this does not mean you have to list in all 5, please ensure you only select the correct breeds to which your Rescue Service belongs to.  We will delete duplicate entries.  Repeated double entries will result in all entries being deleted without notice.

Please also note that all entries made are reviewed by dogsites.com.au and we also encourage users of our site to advise us of any inappropriate use.

All Rescue Services should ensure they read our Terms of Use before submitting their details on our Rescue Services Directory.  Any Members found to not meet the terms and conditions will have their entries deleted without notice.

OK, now the formalities are out of the way let me now show you how to use the Rescue Services Directory editor system.

You must first be a member of dogsites.com.au so if you have not created an account yet please do that now.

To add an entry select the Add Entry button from the navigation menu.

In addition to the above contact details online contact options can also be listed for AIM, ICQ, MSN and YIM.  Simply enter your relevant ID in the box provided.

Dogs Available: select this box if you currenlty have dogs needing homes.  You can add the details in the description.

The short description field is limited to 200 characters and is only displayed on the Card view not the details view.  This should be used to give a short summary of your main description that will encourage users to click on your card to view the full details.

The Description field enables you to add content about your rescue services and any dogs needing rescue and other related information.  We do not restrict you to a limit of content so feel free to add what you need.  Formatting is provided with the toolbar as provided.

rescuehelp5.gif

The standard entry enables you to have a single image displayed on the details view and also a thumbnail image to be displayed on the card view.   For the Main Picture we suggest something that depicts your entry as it is the first image that your viewers will see, you can add more images in a gallery below this.

breeders-add-picture

Simply select the Browse button to locate the photo you want on the details view, find it on your computer and select it.  The file path will be shown now in the field, it will upload later when you save the entry later.  Please note that the file size must not exceed 250kb for this image.

The Card Thumbnail Image allows you to add a small logo to your card entry, this is limited to a maximum size of 120 x 120 pixels and a size of 45kb.

The next two entries are for Meta Keywords and Meta Description.  These assist your entry to be found in searches by the Rescue Services Directory search, the dogsites.com.au search and also when search engines like Google index the dogsites.com.au website.  Do not repeat the same words if it can be helped, use words and a description that do depict exactly what your entry is.  Again miss-use will result in your entry being deleted

breeders-backTo enable individual entries to be slightly different from each other we have provided a number of different background colours for you to choose from, select the colour you wish to have your entry displayed in, if you don't like it you can change it later.

The following box is probably one of the most important sections, this is the categories, or in this case the breeds to which your entry will be tied to.

breeders-categoryYou will notice that you can select up to 5 categories for free.

We however request that you only select the breed(s) to which your entry does directly relate to.  Please be aware if we notice or we have been reported to about entries being in the wrong breeds we will delete all entries, including those in the correct ones.

To select the breeds, use the small boxes with the '+' (plus) signs to open up the breed letter and locate the correct category.  Select the breed and then to the right click on the '>>>' button to add it.

breeders2-8.gif

If you are listing in more than one breed category, i.e. you prove rescue services to more than one breed, you can now locate the other breed and repeat the above step.

If you need to remove a selected breed simply select it and click on the '<<<' button provided.

The next part of the entry is the Gallery, however to ensure your entry is correctly added we recommend you SKIP this part at this stage and come back to it after your entry has been published.

Adding to the Gallery (after your entry has been approved and published) is a very simple process.

breeders-gallery.gif

Find an image by selecting the Browse button and locate the photo on your computer.  Add a description/caption if you want it (optional) and then select upload.

Repeat this until you have added all the photos you wish to have, a maximum of 14 images is allowed.

To be listed in the Directory you must have read and understood and now agree to the terms of use.  If you are agree to the terms of use please select the terms of use select box.  Your selecting this confirms your agreement in whole to our terms of use.

breeders2-10.gif

Now you can save your entry by selecting the SEND button as shown here

breeders2-11.gif

All entries are listed for 1 year and then are expired, you will receive a notice to renew your entry when it is nearing expiry.

Please allow up to 72 hours for your entry to be approved and published.

After it has been published your entry will display an Edit and Delete button to allow you to edit your entry as required or if you want to delete your entry.  Please note your entry if deleted is not actually deleted, it is placed in a suspended status, this is done to cover any accidental deletions, all suspended entries are fully deleted after 60 days.
